Yep, I really did spend part of the rainy Northern California winter indoors shooting cat houses. They just happen to be traditional Japanese neko chagura woven cat houses. Fancy, eh? Blink, a cool California company specializing in products that “appeal deeply and instinctively to cats” hired me to do product shots of their new NekoHut which is now available in the US. Popular in Japan for the last 100 years these hand-made beauties are irresistible to cats who love them inside and out. They’ve been pretty tough to find in the US until Blink came along and are getting a paws up from cat experts
This was a real-animal shoot so I got to cast and work with a bunch of great local felines and their very-patient parents. Many thanks to my models: Minnie the Abyssinian; Beatrice the Tabby, Ashland the Muted Calico; and Siamese stars, Bailey and Izzy. My own cat, Jimmy Chew, managed to sneak himself into a shot or two as well but I’m not sure a thank you is in order for that.
