AHA designated this month to promote pet adoption from shelters and rescues but as I’ve said many, many times before I think it should be every month. My dog, Bizzy, and my cat, Jimmy Chew, are both from rescues and in my line of work I am fortunate to meet and interact with lots and lots of pets and people from animal welfare organizations all over the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. They work tirelessly to help find forever homes for the animals in their care but there’s still much work to be done as millions of adoptable pets in the US are still euthanized each year while waiting in shelters.
If you’ve been considering bringing a pet into your life this is a great month to do it. In fact, if you’re in the Bay Area for the weekend of October 10-11, 2015 virtually every animal rescue and shelter in the region will be at the Pet Food Express Bay Area Pet Fair in Marin. Their goal is to adopt out 1000 animals this year so go help them make that number!
I’m lucky to meet and interact with lots of adopted dogs and to celebrate this month I’ve put together a set of my 11 favorite dog-rescue subjects from 2015 so far. Enjoy!
