When I’m photographing a dog or cat and they happen to position themselves near a piece of art I try to take advantage of it. Cats tend to look nonchalant no matter the artistic drama behind them while dogs will transform the most profound painting or dramatic sculpture into a comic backdrop.
When I’m working with private clients this often a great way to really pump up a shot and turn it into something more artsy (literally) that can really look great hanging on a wall and be both a fine art piece (imagine as a wrapped canvas or high-contrast metal print) and a celebration of their dog or cat.
Here’s a fun little collection of pets I’ve photographed in front of artwork over the years. Enjoy!
